Buying a Car

CLOCKING

Spotting a Clocked Car

A vehicle's odometer
If you feel that the mileage of a used car is surprisingly low, look for other signs of how much it has been used by its previous owners.

  • Are the pedal rubbers worn?
  • Is there a large amount of wear and scuffing on the mats and carpets?
  • Is the steering wheel excessively worn and shiny?
  • Are the seats (especially the driver's seat) showing signs of wear?
  • Does the bodywork show serious amounts of stone chipping?
  • Are the numbers on the odometer incorrectly aligned?
If you can answer YES to any of these questions you should certainly think twice before buying.
