Buying a Car

CLOCKING

Questions to Ask

Car displaying 'genuine mileage' sign
There are also some questions you should consider asking the dealer in order to help confirm that your prospective buy is not clocked.

  • Is there a service history for the vehicle?
  • Is there an MOT certificate for the vehicle?
  • Is there a DVLA Registration Document for it?
  • Is it possible to contact the previous owner to confirm that the mileage is correct?
  • Are there any previous MOTs to substantiate the mileage?
  • Is the mileage definitely correct and, if so, are you able to have that confirmed in writing?
If the dealer becomes agitated and uncooperative, or refuses to answer any of your questions or let you see any of the vehicles paperwork, the best thing to do is to just walk away.
