Buying a Car

CUT AND SHUTS

What is a Cut and Shut?

A cutting tool being used to slice a car in two
A 'cut and shut' is a practice that involves welding together the remains of two or more cars, which have usually been accident-damaged and written off by insurers.

Then car is then given the original identity of one of the wrecked cars.

The resulting car is sprayed and cosmetically repaired before being sold on to an unsuspecting buyer as a genuine used car.

Vehicles classed as 'beyond economic repair' by insurers are increasingly being repaired to a high standard or welded together by unscrupulous mechanics.
