Country Roads - Blind Bends

Blind bends are highly dangerous and need to be treated with caution. Follow these steps to ensure you always come out of the other end safely.

  • On your approach, slow down and position your car to improve your view of the road ahead: for a right-hand bend, keep to the left until you can see through the corner. On a left-hander, move closer to the centre line - but don't cross it.

  • Drop to a speed that will allow you to drive smoothly round the corner on a light throttle. This helps the tyres to grip and keeps the car stable. It also means that when you lift your foot, the car will be braked instantly by the engine, and will turn more tightly into the corner.

  • Avoid sudden braking and steering. This makes the car unstable.
